Nature-Inspired Design for a Modern, Human-Centred Workplace
The redesign of Targobank’s Mainz office was all about forward momentum. LESON GmbH set out to create a space that supports collaboration, invites connection and reflects a contemporary way of working. Drawing inspiration from nature, the new design puts people and wellbeing at the heart of the workplace—without compromising on style or functionality.
Design Intent: Where Nature Meets Modern Office Culture
The vision was clear from the start: a space that feels open, organic and harmonious. LESON GmbH translated that idea into a design language inspired by natural shapes, colours and transitions—creating a fluid environment where form and function work seamlessly together.
Rather than following rigid structures, the space now mirrors the natural world—calm, cohesive and always in motion. It’s a place that supports conversation, creativity and calm focus, all at once.
Flooring as a Design Statement
In this project, soft flooring played far more than a supporting role. Acoustic performance was essential in the open-plan layout but just as important was the visual and spatial impact of the flooring. The Artcore carpet tile collections helped define zones and movement paths through subtle shifts in pattern.
One of the cleverest aspects of the design is what you don’t see. There are no obvious markers or harsh transitions, just gentle zoning created through thoughtful flooring choices.
Organic pattern shifts and colour gradients subtly guide users through the space, defining collaboration areas and quiet zones without disrupting visual flow. It’s intuitive, elegant, and entirely in sync with the building’s rhythm. With seamless transitions and soft curves, the flooring brought cohesion to the space and reinforced the organic design concept. It didn’t just meet the brief—it elevated it.
Right from the start, we were convinced that a flowing, harmonious, organic design language was the right way to meet the desire for unity, an open culture and communication. We believe that the design of spaces - in terms of their materiality, color and form - has a positive impact on how we perceive and use them. A successful design helps employees to accept the new space and office structure, viewing it as an opportunity.

Wellbeing Built Into Every Layer
From the materials to the layout, every design choice was made with wellbeing in mind. The flooring’s warm tones and soft texture add a sense of calm and comfort, essential in a busy, dynamic work environment. The result is a workspace that feels balanced and inviting. One that promotes focus, encourages interaction, and puts people at ease the moment they walk in.
Designed With Flexibility in Mind
The workplace needed to be multifunctional and adaptable. Through a smart mix of flexible room dividers, an integrated furniture concept and modular flooring, the space is ready for anything—from focused solo work to spontaneous teamwork. Soft flooring supported the design strategy from the ground up, enhancing acoustics, unifying the look and feel, and enabling the flexible layout to shine.
From the first sketch to the final installation, the flooring solutions were beautifully aligned with the project’s aesthetic and functional goals. This wasn’t just about selecting the right product, it was about collaboration, creativity and sharing the vision to help the new Targo Bank headquarters become more than just an office. It became a space where people feel good, work well and stay inspired.
