Futuristic Sophistication: PA Consulting’s Global Innovation and Technology Centre Gets a Sustainable Transformation

PA Consulting, renowned for their innovative solutions and transformative approaches, embarked on a project to modernise their Global Innovation and Technology Centre (GITC) in Cambridge. Originally designed by the famous architectural duo Richard Rogers and Renzo Piano in 1975, the facility needed updates to align with PA’s contemporary vision. GTA was tasked with the architectural transformation, focusing on enhancing the visitor experience and integrating modern, sustainable design elements.

The project’s scope included extending the building entrance, creating a new lobby and atrium, and re-planning the building approach for better visitor access. The entrance and lobby, with their floating canopy and redefined roadway, create an impressive sense of arrival. The external landscaping, featuring tiered gabion walls, new paving, and striking lighting, complements the building's modern aesthetic. Inside, the large atrium, oak-clad bleacher seating, and terrazzo steps lead to the main reception and a suite of meeting rooms. These spaces are equipped with integrated digital displays and acoustic treatments, showcasing PA’s innovative capabilities.

The flooring solution played a crucial role in the refurbishment, contributing to both the aesthetic appeal and functional performance of the spaces. GTA chose for modulyss as the ideal flooring solutions to meet the project’s demanding requirements. The raised floors enhanced electrical installation flexibility, accommodating the high-tech needs of PA Consulting’s operations. The chosen carpets helped improve the acoustic environment, essential for meeting rooms and collaborative spaces.

The flooring materials were selected for their environmental credentials, aligning with the project’s aim to achieve The RICS ska scheme. Modulyss’ commitment to sustainability ensured the use of eco-friendly materials, contributing to the project’s overall environmental goals. The flooring’s design complemented the interior aesthetics, featuring a palette of perforated black metal, grey terrazzo stone, and oak joinery. This cohesive look reinforced the modern, innovative atmosphere of the GITC.

The reimagined approach to the building ensures a seamless and impressive visitor experience. The new lobby and atrium create a welcoming atmosphere with multifunctional spaces for events and meetings. Inside, the atrium and reception area serve as the heart of the visitor experience, while the café offers a comfortable space for informal interactions. The flooring design ties these spaces together, providing both functional benefits and aesthetic coherence.

The refurbishment of the GITC has transformed the facility into a modern, sustainable, and highly functional space. The design not only meets but exceeds PA Consulting’s goals, enhancing both the visitor experience and the working environment. The successful integration of modulyss’ flooring solutions underscores the importance of thoughtful design and sustainable practices in creating spaces that inspire and support innovation.
